課程簡介(以100至200字為原則):
This course helps students obtain knowledge of classic philosophical, religious, and literary in western civilization. Students in this course will learn how to interpret and analyze canons and develop critical insight of related cultural issues. Students will learn how to scrutinize these important works of the pre-Medieval period, the Medieval period, and the Renaissance period, including the Bible, Greek mythology and literature, Roman literature, early German, French and Italian literature. Students will also examine the key issues of the Hebrew, Christian, and classical cultures. In the end of the semester, students will (1)learn to read complex texts in their cultural and historical contexts, (2)become aware of the complexity of the embedded arguments, (3)get better understanding of the underlying relation of later important western religious, philosophical, and literary texts.
